Who should apply to the Design Writing Groups?
Writing Space’s Spring 2025 Design Writing Groups are best-suited for faculty, writers, or researchers looking for accountability to advance an ongoing writing project and develop sustainable habits for maintaining an active writing practice in the future. Writing groups are open to academics, researchers, and writers working in the field of design. Preference will be given to full-time faculty in communication design.

How often do writing groups meet?
For the duration of the spring semester, each group will meet once every two weeks at an agreed-upon day and time. A fixed meeting time reinforces the notion that writing is a priority and promotes accountability.
How does a writing group promote accountability?
Writing groups provide a support network for establishing a regular writing practice and help group members set and achieve goals related to writing and/or research.
Is everyone who applies accepted into the Design Writing Group program?
No. The Design Writing Group program is competitive
How are applications evaluated?
All applications are carefully reviewed. Preference is given to applicants already immersed in a writing project and those who make a strong case for the way in which participation in a writing group will advance their project and practice.
Must accepted participants do any work prior to the first writing group meetings in January 2025?
Participants will be invited to join a virtual welcome meeting in late December 2024 or early January 2025.
What is the cost, and why are writing group members asked to pay to participate?
It costs $125 to participate in the Spring 2025 Design Writing Groups. Participant fees go to offset costs associated with producing and maintaining the groups.
